Comes January 2024, the French language edition of The Deadly Don: Vito Genovese Mafia Boss, will be published. The title in the French is Parrain Mortel “Parrain” is the French for godfather, crime boss, and similar characterizations. The French seem to like stories about the Mafia, which harkens back to the days when the Italian mobsters were key links in the heroin connection to Marseille via Sicily and Turkey. The French edition comes out a couple of months before the new film, “Wiseguys” about the struggle Genovese and Frank Costello had for control of their crime family in ther 1950s. Robert DeNiro is playing both Genovese and Costello with skillful makeup and costuming, as well as carefully staged scenes around a dinner table.
